couple of container bits (trunk only)

Don't use the phrase "seems to be locked" when you discover that a
container is indeed locked.  Also, using an alternate naming routine is
a simpler way to avoid redundant "the empty <container> is empty" than
suppressing the contents-known handling for xname.
