Noticed while looking into whether I could use DUNGEON_OVERVIEW data
for something useful, it was recording accurate terrain type for locations
covered by mimics who were mimicking furniture (such as stairs or altars).
Hero should remember the fake terrain rather than whatever is actually
underneath the mimic.
No fixes entry; user-contributed DUNGEON_OVERVIEW is post-3.4.3 code.
There was an issue reported where save files between different
versions of a manufacturer's compiler were incompatible because the time_t
ubirthday field was changed from 32 bits to 64 bits.
32 bit time_t implementations will break at 19:14:07 on January 18, 2038.
64 bit time_t implementations will break at 23:59:59 on December 31, 3000.
This removes the dependency on the size of time_t from the save file.
The ubirthday field is no longer embedded in struct you.
This also adds two general purpose routines to hacklib.c, one to convert a time
value to a 14 character char representation and the other to convert that
back to time_t. Those are used by the save/restore routines.
This is a savefile breaking change, so editlevel in patchlevel.h was
incremented.
This is an overhaul to the NetHack drawing mechanism.
- eliminates the need to have separate lists in drawing.c
for the things and their associated explanations by grouping
those thing together on the same inializer in a struct.
- replaces all of these options: IBMgraphics, DECgraphics, MACgraphics,
graphics, monsters, objects, boulder, traps, effects
- drawing.c contains only the set of NetHack standard symbols for
the main game and a set of NetHack standard symbols for the
roguelevel.
- introduces a symbols file that contains named sets of
symbols that can be loaded at run time making it extensible
for situations like multinational code pages like those reported
by <Someone>, without hardcoding additional sets into the game code.
- symbols file uses names for the symbols, so offsets will not break
when new things are introduced into the game, the way the older
config file uchar load routines did.
- symbols file only contains exceptions to the standard NetHack
set, not entire sets so they are much less verbose than all of
the g_FILLER() entries that were previously in drawing.c
- 'symset' and 'roguesymset' config file options for
preselecting a symbol set from the file called 'symbols'
at startup time. The name of the symbols file is not under the
users control, only the symbol set name desired from within the
symbols file is.
- 'symset' config file option loads a desired symbol set for
everything but the rogue level.
- 'roguesymset' config file option loads a desired symbol set
for the rogue level.
- 'SYMBOLS' config file option allows the user to specify replacement
symbols on a per symbol basis. You can specify as many or as few symbols
as you wish. The symbols are identified by a name:value pair, and line
continuation is supported. Multiple symbol assignments can be made on
the same line if each name:value pair is separated by a comma.

The devteam feedback was to place casts in the code
in question.
This puts explicit casts on some code that was being
compiled into 'int64' then stuffed into smaller types with
VC2005.
From a bug report: when creating a
level, anthole rooms can be generated even when no ants are left, unlike
beehives which get suppressed once killer bees are gone. Also, if some
ants are available but the type chosen for the current level isn't (in his
case, soldier ants had been genocided), the anthole was filled will random
monsters instead of picking another type of ant. This fixes both issues.
Random monsters will only occur if the last type of ant gets used up while
filling an anthole that was started when some ants were available, same as
how monster generation for beehives and barracks works.
From a bug report, the placement
of random doors by the code that loads special levels would attempt to
evaluate rn2(0) and either get a divide by zero crash (normal build) or an
impossible warning (DEBUG enabled when compiing rnd.c, done automatically
when BETA is defined). The problem was only noticable for random door in
a 1x1 room; none of our distributed levels specify such a thing so regular
users won't have encountered this bug. It's a one line fix.
Altar placement in temples also had a quirk of a similar nature. It
wouldn't trigger rn2(0) problems but would always place the altar to left
of mid-point in rooms with even width and above the center point in ones
with even height. Now the placement is randomized so that sometimes it'll
be to the right and/or below mid-point in such cases.
This also simplifies a couple other instances of similar expressions
that I spotted.
Allow health food stores to carry eggs and tins of veggy contents in
their stock. The tins will almost always contain spinach because random
tins containing meat are converted into that.
Also, allow health food stores to be placed with the level compiler
(not tested) and to be forcibly placed in wizard mode via SHOPTYPE setting
of "V". Increments EDITLEVEL in patchlevel.h because lighting store in
Minetown got renumbered and the special level for it needs to be rebuilt.
Reported last December by <email deleted>. Using
a wand or spell of undead turning inside a shop used up corpses without
checking whether they were owned by the shop. Although the report didn't
mention it, using stone-to-flesh on statues had the same problem.
I'm not completely satisfied by some aspects of this code, but if I
don't commit what I've got now I probably never would. My original notes
are lost; I thought that there were some additional fixes present, but
looking at these diffs I don't see anything else significant enough to
warrant mention in the fixes file.
