02885dfccf X11 xrdb complaints
Three instances of "'s" were triggering warnings due to unmatched
apostrophe in the X11 application defaults file. Reword the affected
comments.

8dfcdfe753 pull request #1114 - NetHack.ad remarks about XPM
Pull request from bernhardreiter: NetHack.ad has a comment about
needing to use an external tool such as XV or PBMplus rather than
the NetHack.double_tile_size resource if nethack is built with the
USE_XPM configuration. Add some more detail since using 'hints' when
setting up the Makefiles can define that behind the builder's back.

The extra detail won't be useful to players who obtain prebuilt
binaries that incorporate the X11 interface. The comment in config.h
(see preceding pull request) won't be either, and maybe should be
moved to NetHack.ad where such users will be able to see it.

Fixes #1114.

3a14239be1 doc: add note that USE_XPM can be defined otherwise
* Add an additional hint to win/X11/NetHack.ad that `USE_XPM` can be defined outsite of `config.h` as it is the case with `hints/linux-x11`-

de32aa74c7 Use "magenta" for bright magenta
Older X servers don't understand "Fuchsia," and NetHack throws
impossibles as a result. The current Xorg defines "magenta" as the
same color as "Fuchsia," namely #FF00FF, and older X servers
understand "magenta."

The resulting X11 NetHack is known to work with XFree86 4.2.0.
The minimum version remains undetermined.

d438bf07c8 X11 resource defaults
Some of the items in NetHack.ad were separated from others by "!"
comment line rather than plain blank line and that tended to make it
look like the two items were directly related. For the ones which
aren't, remove '!'.

I also expanded some comments and reordered a couple of resources,
moving 'slow' closer to top and advanced 'translations' farther down.

742ec3dd49 X11: Don't hilite the help ext menu entry
Both the "help" button at top and the "help" extended menu command
were hilighted by the X resources. Make the top buttons have
"btn_" prefix, so they're easily distinguished in the resources.

0470065b47 X11: TTY-style status lines
Set X resource NetHack*fancy_status: False to enable the TTY-style
status lines. Default is the fancy status.

This patch is somewhat unfinished - even though the TTY-style status
allow for status hilites, the colors don't work correctly yet.
Also changes the fancy status to use the windowport notification code.

7b156bf704 X11: add new player selection dialog
The dialog shows the player's name, race, role, gender, and
alignment in a single window, similar to the Qt4 dialog.
Also allows randomizing the character selection.

Use the dialog by setting OPTIONS=player_selection:dialog

ef9cd17942 X11 extcmd_height_delta resourse
Umpteenth revision of the X11 extended command menu. Add a new
resource to NetHack.ad to control its initial size.

I still hope there's a better way to do this, but this is my last
shot at it.

c8aa84337b revise X11 highlight yn prompting
The three line change I made previously to implement highlighting for
prompts that ask for single-character input was easy and worked well
for a tiles map, but it didn't look very good for a text map. This
handles both text map and tile map and also adds a configurable
'highlight_prompt' X resource to let the user enable or disable the
feature. The resource template file (win/X11/NetHack.ad, copied to
$HACKDIR during install) now has it enabled by default.

The highlighting--more specifically, the "lowlighting" when no prompt
is active--still looks bad if the map window has a vertical scrollbar
on left edge. I don't have any inspiration about how to fix that up.

6d53aaa6ff more new status - X11 'fancy' status
Update X11's status display to include the expanded set of status
conditions. This time the order is
 Petrifying <hunger> Blind
 Slimed <encumbrance> Deaf
 Strangled Levitating Stunned
 Food Pois Flying Confused
 Term Ill Riding Hallucinating
with the application defaults file specifying red text for the first
column and black for the other two. Previously it was all one column
with seven entries. [Slimed was missing along with the six new ones
(deaf, stone, strngl, lev, fly, ride) and both types of sickness were
shown as 'FoodPois' or 'Ill' or 'FoodPois Ill' on one line.]

So now basic bot2, #if STATUS_VIA_WINDOWPORT genl_status_update, and
#if !STATUS_VIA_WINDOWPORT X11 fancy status have three different
orderings. genl_status_update has hunger and encumbrance first
because all the other status conditions are grouped together as one
bitmask item. bot2 has 'lev', 'fly', 'ride' last so that they're
the first things to be sacrificed if the string of status conditions
ends up being truncated. (genl_status_update also has those last.)

In addition to updating status conditions, I reordered the Hp, Pw, &c
section too so that it's closer to tty in organization.
 Hit points Maximum HP
 Power Maximum Power
 Armor Class Alignment
 Exp.Level Exp.Points (if 'showexp')
 Gold Moves (if 'time')
 Score (if 'showscore')
I didn't have SCORE_OR_BOTL set so haven't seen the last one, but
it's in the same position as it was before.

a5c8b517d2 X11 dynamic map mode selection
Prompted by a question from Pat a long time back, this change finally allows
tiles or text map mode to be chosen dynamically at runtime (using the
"tiled_map" option) rather than having to pick it via an X resource and
keep your selection until you exit. This brings map mode selection up to a
level similar to most other graphical window ports.
In addition, the map mode automatically switches to text on the Rogue
level, also like other graphical window ports.
The default mode for the X11 binary is now tiles, once again, like most (all?)
other graphical window ports.
The patch also removes some dead X11 code that is unlikely to be useful again.
