3ee6bcdf76 doset_simple() revisited
For a compound option's value that uses getlin(), cancelling with
ESC wasn't dismissing the menu and could eventually result in a
"No window slots!" panic. Clean up properly after ESC.

doset() and doset_simple() were sharing a format string but those
weren't the same if the longest option name differed. Stop sharing.

doset_simple() didn't support menu_tab_sep. Now it does. (Tested
with Qt; really needs to be tested with WinGUI. Enabling that is
expected to produce strange looking results with tty or curses.)

The pull request included some changes that were neither accidental nor
unintentional, so only a subset of the changes from pull request #869
submitted by klorpa were manually applied.

fa320a0a5f doset_simple()
Move the guts of doset_simple() into a separate routine. Initially
that was just to avoid having to increase indentation when replacing
'goto' with 'do { ... } until ()'. It ends up making the flow of
control easier to see.

doset() and doset_simple() each had their own static flag indicating
whether 'fmtstr_doset' had been assigned a value. Redundant
assignment produced the same value so it wasn't an actual problem.

doset_simple() probably needs to add menu_tab_sep support for WinGUI.
Qt is able to get by without it, but that's because it forces use of
fixed-width font when any line in a menu or text window has 4 or more
consecutive spaces. I don't think WinGUI does that.

11c8d5cd5e Unix: command line --windowtype:foo fix
initoptions(), including initoptions_finish(), was running to
completion with the default window system before windowtype from the
command was parsed and activated. When the default window system
is tty without MS-DOS the map type gets set to ascii; command line
--windowtype:X11 doesn't switch it back to the X11 default of tiled.

So,
| NETHACKOPTIONS=windowtype:X11 nethack
ran nethack in tiles mode but
| nethack --windowtype:X11
ran it in text mode (assuming .nethackrc left tiles vs text with the
default setting).

I think this fix is quite iffy but it seems to work as intended....
It reclassifies '--windowtype' as an "early option" in unixmain.c,
and the options.c code ultimately processes it twice.

c42e73fd9c Allow binding mouse buttons
Instead of hardcoding mouse button actions, allow the user to
bind mouse buttons to extended commands. For example the new
defaults are:

BIND=mouse1:therecmdmenu
BIND=mouse2:clicklook

Currently a bit rudimentary; the defaults should be OK, but
documentation is bit lacking, and in-game binding and option
saving are missing.

Allowed commands to bind are "nothing", "therecmdmenu", "clicklook",
and "mouseaction". Clicklook replaces the "clicklook" boolean option,
and mouseaction does what mouse 1 button used to do - a context sensitive
action.

The number_pad option wasn't getting saved because it has a separate
handler - mark the option as changed even if the value did not change
so it will be saved to the config.

c1337773f5 'color' in simple options menu
'color' appears in the simplified O menu for curses, but was not
showing up for tty. That's because it is hidden when tiles are in
use, and tty has had a bogus value for iflags.wc_tiled_map.

Presence of USE_TILES is not a reliable way to tell whether tiles
are available in a multi-interface binary. Nor is the setting of
DEFAULT_WC_TILED_MAP from config.h.

5c7f2945da curses: interactively toggling 'perm_invent' On
Enabling perm_invent with 'O' ('m O' these days) with curses used to
work but stopped at some point. Analysis by entrez has attributed
the change to the g.program_state.in_docrt flag in docrt(). When
curses creates the perm_invent window for update_inventory(), it
calls docrt() to have nethack redraw the screen.

 docrt() -> update_inventory() -> curses_update_inventory() -> ...
  -> curs_reset_windows() -> doredraw() -> docrt() [early return]

resulted in room for the persistent inventory window but it was
blank.

This also replaces a couple of doredraw() calls with direct calls to
docrt() (one in code that isn't used). doredraw() implements a user
command; docrt() does the actual redrawing.

45613ea771 Experimental #saveoptions command
Add a #saveoptions extended command, to allow saving configuration
settings from within the game. This is still highly experimental,
and gives plenty of warnings before asking to overwrite the file.

Lack of option saving is one of the biggest complaints new players
have, so this should help with it. More experienced players with
highly customized config file should not use this feature, as it
completely rewrites the file, removing all comments and non-config
lines.

e5ddf400c6 'O' tweaks
Reformat most of optlist.h. In the process, fix a couple of
conditionally included items which were mis-classified as set_in_game
when excluded. Add "permablind" as an alias for the "blind" option.
[I don't understand the size value of 70 for #if BACKWARD_COMPAT
{curses,DEC,IBM,Mac}_graphics but didn't alter that.]

Include 'pickup_types' in the behavior section; it's useful from
turn 1 and does get adjusted from time to time during play.

Include 'color' in the map section, but hide it for wc_tiled_map.

Include 'showscore' and 'statuslines=2|3' in the status section.
I didn't rebuild with SCORE_ON_BOTL enabled so the showscore part
hasn't been tested.

c7a467701f fix github issue #832 - "nethack --nethackrc=file"
Issue reported by schauveau: when the command line specifies the
'--nethackrc=file' option (Unix, including linux and OSX, only) the
value of 'file' was set in pointer g.cmdline_rcfile and the options
parsing made a copy of that pointer rather than of what it pointed
to, then freed g.cmdline_rcfile before using the copy. So it ended
up using a pointer to freed memory.

Stick with copying the pointer but defer freeing the original until
after its copy is no longer needed.

c84e0ba6e1 rework TTY_PERM_INVENT; update window port interface
Change the inner workings of the experimental TTY_PERM_INVENT.

Switch to delivering the content to tty for the experimental perm_invent
via the existing window port interface (start_menu(), add_menu(), end_menu).

This also adds a new window port interface call ctrl_nhwindow() for
delivering information to the window port, and/or obtaining specific
information from the window port. The information and requests can
be extended as required. To be documented later once the changes settle
down.

Due to the intrusive nature of these changes and the possibility of
some bugs in the new code, I'm going to leave TTY_PERM_INVENT commented
out in the repository for a day or two. Anyone wishing to test it out
can do so by uncommenting TTY_PERM_INVENT in config.h.

dda4cd0530 regex handling
Change the regex_error_desc() interface. Have the caller pass in
a pointer to a buffer of at least BUFSZ characters and have
regex_error_desc() populate that. No need for static buffers or
extra dynamic alloction.

Also, change it to never return Null. None of its callers were
checking for that and could have passed Null to config_error_add()
or raw_print(). printf("%s", NULL) produces "null" on OSX but other
systems would probably crash if a Null result ever actually occurred.

The error explanation returned by cppregex included a trailing period.
config_error_add() adds one, so the message ended up with two. Have
regex_error_desc() check for final period and strip it off if found.
(My test case used a menucolor pattern of "[" which triggers an error
about mismatched brackets.)

Reformat cppregex.cpp; treat 'extern "C" {' as if it isn't introducing
a nested block. Fix the '#include <hack.h>' that 'make depend' was
ignoring.

30b557f7d5 change xchar to other typedefs
One of the drivers of this change was that screen coordinates require a
type that can hold values greater than 127. Parameters to the window
port routines require a large type in order to be able to have values
a fair bit larger than COLNO and ROWNO passed to them, particularly for
their use to the right of the map window.

This splits the uses of xchar into 3 different situations, and adjusts
their type and size:

                        xchar
                          |
               -----------------------
               | | |
            coordxy xint16 xint8

coordxy: Actual x or y coordinates for various things (moved to 16-bits).

xint16: Same data size as coordxy, but for non-coordinate use (16-bits).

xint8: There are only a few use cases initially, where it was very
plain to see that the variable could remain as 8-bits, rather
than be bumped to 16-bits. There are probably more such cases
that could be changed after additional review.

Note: This first changed all xchar variables to coordxy. Some were
reviewed and got changed to xint16 or xint8 when it became apparent that
their usage was not for coordinates.

f228fefabd updated window_procs
Add a non-string identifier to window_procs for use in runtime
identification of the current window port being used.

Use a macro WPID to add the identification at the top of the
various existing window_procs declarations. It expands to the
existing text string, as well as the newly added field wp_id
with a wp_ identifier.

For example, WPID(tty) expands to: "tty", wp_tty

The generated wp_tty must be present in the wp_ids enum at
the top of include/winprocs.h.

The WINDOWPORT(x) macro has been updated to expand to a simple
value comparison (port.wp_id == wp_x), instead of a
string comparison.

18b28084f8 move some parts of TTY_PERM_INVENT into core
This starts the tty perm_invent just in time later in the
startup rather than initializing it with the other
game windows.

This also splits the duties:

The core will inquire from the window port about how many
inventory slots it can fill.

The core will handle figuring out the inventory text and
inventory letters, and will do the traversing of internal
data structures like obj chains, and passing customization
options on to the window port.

The window port will look after placing each inventory slot's
text at an appropriate location on the screen.

This, in theory, makes the core-portion available for
window ports other than tty to use, though none currently do.
The decision of what goes in an inventory slot is all left up
to the core with the update_invent_slot interface.

Documentation updates will come later, not at this time.

295a8523f5 tty perm_invent fixes
Modify the error message delivery when too-small so that it works for
both NETHACKOPTIONS or .nethackrc and for 'O'. "Early failure" isn't
very early; using pline() instead of raw_print() ends up writing to
the base window but also works normally when used for failed attempt
to set perm_invent with 'O'.

Fix the off by one error in height which required an extra line that
ended up going unused.

Fix an off by one error in the middle divider. Forcing the same item
from the left column to the right column, I was seeing
"f - an uncursed +0 pair of leather glove" ["s (being worn)" truncated]
"F - an uncursed +0 pair of leather gl"
After the fix I get
"f - an uncursed +0 pair of leather glov"
"F - an uncursed +0 pair of leather glo"
(When terminal width is even, the left side is one character wider
than the right.)

Split the invent window creation code out of tty_create_nhwwindow() to
new routine tty_create_invent(). I came across
  if (r == 0 || (newwin->maxrow - 1)
in the process (note lack of 'r ==' in the second part). I'm not sure
what the initialization code is intended to accomplish but missing
that init for the bottom (boundary box) row didn't seem to be causing
any problem.

This forces the required size to be big enough to handle statuslines:3
regardless of what the setting for that is at the time the perm_invent
window is created. When the value is 2, there will be a blank line
between status and the boundary box of perm_invent. When it is 3, the
third line will use that line and the only separator will be the top
boundary box line. Toggling back and forth with 'O' works as expected.
