0792e5fe9e expand implicit fallthrough detection to non-gcc compilers
gcc has recognized various "magic comments" for white-listing
occurrences of implicit fallthrough in switch statements for
a long time:

    The range and shape of "falls through" comments accepted are
    contingent upon the level of the warning. (The default level is =3.)

    -Wimplicit-fallthrough=0 disables the warning altogether.
    -Wimplicit-fallthrough=1 treats any kind of comment as a "falls through" comment.
    -Wimplicit-fallthrough=2 essentially accepts any comment that contains something
     that matches (case insensitively) "falls?[ \t-]*thr(ough|u)" regular expression.
    -Wimplicit-fallthrough=3 case sensitively matches a wide range of regular
     expressions, listed in the GCC manual. E.g., all of these are accepted:
        /* Falls through. */
        /* fall-thru */
        /* Else falls through. */
        /* FALLTHRU */
        /* ... falls through ... */
       etc.
    -Wimplicit-fallthrough=4 also, case sensitively matches a range of regular
     expressions but is much more strict than level =3.
    -Wimplicit-fallthrough=5 doesn't recognize any comments.

Plenty of other compilers did not recognize the gcc comment convention,
and up until now the compiler warning for detecting unintended
fallthrough had to be suppressed on other compilers. That's because the code
in NetHack has been relying on the gcc approach, and only the gcc approach.

The C23 standard introduces an attribute [[fallthrough]] for the
functionality, when implicit fallthrough warnings have been enabled.

Several popular compilers already support that, or a very similar attribute
style approach, today, even ahead of their C23 support:

       C compiler                       whitelist approach
       ---------------------------   -------------------------------------
       C23 conforming compilers         [[fallthrough]]

       clang versions supporting
       standards prior to
       C23                              __attribute__((__fallthrough__))

       Microsoft Visual Studio
       since VS 2022 17.4.
       The warning C5262 controls
       whether the implict
       fallthrough is detected and
       warned about with
       /std:clatest.                    [[fallthrough]]

This adds support to NetHack for the attribute approach by inserting a
macro FALLTHROUGH to the existing cases that require white-listing, so
other compilers can analyze things too.

The definition of the FALLTHROUGH macro is controlled in include/tradstdc.h.

The gcc comment approach has also been left in place at this time.

f5d889852b hero-as-gremlin enhancements
When hero is poly'd into a gremlin, using #monster at a fountain
location will clone a gremlin pet. Do the same at a pool location
(might not match the movie but if not, most likely because the
situation never came up). Also, do the same for #sit at either
fountain or pool.

6c0ae092c6 distinguish global variables that get written to savefile
The g? structs had a mix of variables that were written to
the savefile, and those that were not.

For better clarity and to distinguish those that end up in
the savefile, relocate some g? variables that get written
directly to the savefile into different structs.

This updates EDITLEVEL, although technically it probably
didn't need to, since savefile contents are not changing.

Details:

9896a81d6c wizard mode control of throne sitting outcome
When debugging, allow player to choose which outcome for #sit on a
throne (just 1 to 13; no menu; player has to check source to figure
out what the values mean). Also when the chance to use up the throne
afterward comes up, prompt whether to honor it (similar to drying up
a fountain).

Added to ease testing for github issue #1250 but I still haven't been
able to produce anything odd with ^A after #sit whether or not it was
preceded by a counted action that got interrupted before the count
expired.

1b79f00a39 more PR #1077 - #sit on floor trap while Flying
Sitting on a squeaky board wasn't triggering it even after the
handler for that type of trap allowed VIASITTING to override Flying.
The check_in_air() test for floor traps didn't have the same override,
so the squeaky board handler didn't get called.

This fixes that, which led to inconsistency with some other trap
types, and additional fixes for pits and bear traps. There might be
others that still behave oddly. For example, if flying over a hole,
using #sit yields
 |You land. There's a gaping hole under you! You don't fall in.
I think that's a message phrasing issue rather than a falling trap
issue; if you want to go down, use '>' instead of #sit. On the other
hand, you do now fall into pit traps for #sit while flying over them.

1c94bdac89 blindness overhaul
I was working on this at the time 3.6.0 was released and set it aside
until later. Later has finally arrived. Redo the Blind, Blinded,
Blindfolded,&c macros to make more complete use of intrinsic property
handling. Blinded was being treated as a number which could be added
to or subtracted from; now that has to be done via TIMEOUT mask
because it has FROMOUTSIDE (OPTIONS:blind) and FROMFORM (poly'd into
!haseyes() form) bits included. Object definitions for blindfold and
towel now specify the BLINDED property; overriding blindness via the
Eyes of the Overworld is accomplished via props[BLINDED].blocked.

Code generated for the scores of Blind and !Blind tests throughout
the program should be smaller.

One bug that has been fixed is that putting on the Eyes of the
Overworld cured permanent blindness (from OPTIONS:blind). The
u.uroleplay.blind flag was cleared and stayed so after taking them
off. Putting the Eyes on still breaks blind-from-birth conduct but
now blindness will resume when they are removed.

This was untested at the time it was set aside and is only lightly
tested now. A large number of the changes here are just to switch
from Blinded to BlindedTimeout for current timed value and to call
set_itimeout() for setting a new value.

fbd9a7bae8 another update to the soundlib interface
sound_verbal(char *text, int32_t gender, int32_t tone, int32_t vol,
             int32_t moreinfo);
    -- NetHack will call this function when it wants to pass text of
       spoken language by a character or creature within the game.
    -- text is a transcript of what has been spoken.
    -- gender indicates MALE or FEMALE sounding voice.
    -- tone indicates the tone of the voice.
    -- vol is the volume (1% - 100%) for the sound.
    -- moreinfo is used to provide additional information to the soundlib.
    -- there may be some accessibility uses for this function.

It may be useful for accessibility purposes too.

A preliminary implementation has been attempted for macsound to test
the interface on macOS. No tinkering of the voices has been done.

Use of the test implementation requires the following at build time with make.
    WANT_SPEECH=1
That needs to be included on the make command line to enable the test code,
otherwise just the interface update is compiled in.

I don't know for certain when AVSpeechSynthesizer went into macOS, but older versions
likely don't support it, and would just leave off the WANT_SPEECH=1.

If built with WANT_SPEECH=1, the 'voices' NetHack option needs to be enabled.

It was a bit strange, when I first started up the test, to hear Asidonhopo,
the shopkeeper, talking to me as I entered his shop and interacted with him.

02a48aa8cf split g into multiple structures
The consolidation of global variables from scattered source
files into decl.c and declared in decl.h was begun in 3.7.0.
Their placement in common files was done for centralized
initialization and potential re-initialization during a
"play again" scenario.

It wasn't really necessary for all of them to be housed in a
single huge structure to meet the "play again" requirement,
and the single huge structure has been a little unwieldy when
it comes to maintenance.

Following this commit, instead of one single extremely large structure
named 'g' to house all of the relocated global variables, they
are distributed into several ga through gz.

To make things easy for the developer, each variable is placed
into the struct corresponding to the starting letter of the variable.
That way, no lookup is required in order to know which struct houses
a particular variable, it is a simple match to the starting letter
for all the centralized global variables.

A global variable named 'amulets', would be found in ga.
    ga.amulets
     ^ ^
A global varable named 'move', would be found in gm.
    gm.moves
     ^ ^
A global variable named 'val_for_n_or_more' would be found in gv.
    gv.val_for_n_or_more
     ^ ^
A global variable named 'youmonst' would be found in gy.
    gy.youmonst
     ^ ^

d53cd28d46 Make extended commands return defined flags
Instead of returning 0 or 1, we'll now use ECMD_OK or ECMD_TURN.
These have the same meaning as the hardcoded numbers; ECMD_TURN
means the command uses a turn.

In future, could add eg. a flag denoting "user cancelled command"
or "command failed", and should clear eg. the cmdq.

Mostly this was simply replacing return values with the defines
in the extended commands, so hopefully I didn't break anything.

6ae05df1c3 more reformatting - label placement
Indent all labels one space. Having uniform placement makes spotting
them much easier. (Having no indent at all would impact the change
bars of 'git diff'. Those display the last unindented line--which
doesn't start with punctuation--occuring before each band of changes,
so usually the name of the function being changed now that we no
longer have unindented K&R-style function argument declarations.)

495cda17b7 some reformatting
Replace some
  (foo &&
   bar)
that had crept back into the code with
  (foo
   && bar)
to match the reformatting which took place before 3.6.0. There are a
couple of lines ending in '||' still present but they look intentional.
isaac64.c has some trailing '|' bit operators that could/should be
moved to the start of the next line but I didn't touch that file.

While in the affected files, I tried to shorten most overly wide lines
(the right margin is supposed to at column 78 and there are quite a
few lines which are 79 characters long, but I left most of those
rather than introduce new line splits). Also replace a handful of
tabs with spaces. I was a little surprised not find any trailing
spaces (in the dozen or so files being updated). I didn't look for
trailing arithmetic or '?'/':' operators which aught to be moved to
the start of the next line.

Prayer reward can already uncurse a cursed saddle because hero is

The original riding implementation in slash'em operated with the
saddle in hero's inventory rather than in the steed's, so it would
have handled this without any extra effort. Presumeably that was
overlooked when incorporating riding into nethack changed it to
have saddle be part of the steed's inventory instead of hero's.
