5a437b336a remove SYSFLAGS and MFLOPPY code
A check into github issue 364 confirmed that
ba6edbe5dc
had incorrectly updated the bwrite sizeof entry for sysflags.

The SYSFLAGS and MFLOPPY code is all in the outdated part of the tree, so just
remove it rather than re-correct it.

298331fe04 improved regexp handling
If regex_compile() fails, free the regexp before doing anything else
in case failure reason is "out of memory". Feedback to the user is
highly likely to panic or crash after memory runs out; this should
let the regex failure message be issued and the game continue.

User sound regular expressions were never freed. This frees them
when FREE_ALL_MEMORY is enabled.

a51e44e532 move lua context out of dungeons[]
and out of save files so restore doesn't need to clear stale data.
Behavior should be the same as before, except that when entering
the endgame branch and discarding the main dungeon and its other
branches, lua theme context is now discarded for those too.

e63fed627c obj->oextra->{omid,olong}
Change obj->oextra->omid from a usually-Null pointer field in
oextra to a simple 'unsigned' that doesn't need any allocation
beyond obj->oextra itself.  Value 0 means that it is not in use;
it is used to hold a monst.m_id and those are always non-zero.

Delete unused obj->oextra->olong. 'olong' used to be the last
field in struct obj, put there to force alignment of anything
which followed it back when obj structures were over-allocated to
append extra information. It had a comment about being used for
temporary gold but whatever that was, temporary gold was gone long
before obj->oextra got introduced.

Bump EDITLEVEL since this invalidates existing 3.7 save files.

Remove a bunch of tabs from obj.h and save.c.

d37fa196b2 make a distinction between rock and unexplored area
This adds a pair of new glyphs: GLYPH_UNEXPLORED and GLYPH_NOTHING

GLYPH_UNEXPLORED is meant to be the glyph for areas of the map that
haven't been explored yet.

GLYPH_NOTHING is a glyph that represents that which cannot be seen,
for instance the dark part of a room when the dark_room option is
not set. Since the symbol for stone can now be overridden to
a players choice, it no longer made sense using S_stone for the
dark areas of the room with dark_room off. This allows the same
intended result even if S_stone symbol is mapped to something visible.

GLYPH_UNEXPLORED is what areas of the map get initialized to now
instead of STONE.

This adds a pair of new symbols: S_unexplored and S_nothing.

S_nothing is meant to be left as an unseen character (space) in
order to achieve the intended effect on the display.

S_unexplored is the symbol that is mapped to GLYPH_UNEXPLORED, and
is a distinct symbol from S_stone, even if they are set to the same
character. They don't have to be set to the same character.

Hopefully there are minimal bugs, but it is a deviation from a
fairly long-standing approach so there could be some unintended
glitches that will need repair.

fd55d9118e Use lua for special level files
Game is playable, and should compile on linux and Windows.
Assumes you have a lua 5.3 library available.

Removes level compiler and associated files.
Replaces special level des-files with lua scripts.
Exposes some NetHack internals to lua:
 - des-table with commands to create special levels
 - nh-table with NetHack core commands
 - nhc-table with some constants
 - u-table with some player-specific data (u-struct)
 - selection userdata

Adds some rudimentary tests.

Adds new extended command #wizloadlua to run a specific script,
and #wizloaddes to run a specific level-creation script.

nhlib.lua is loaded for every lua script.

Download and untar lua:
  mkdir lib
  cd lib
  curl -R -O http://www.lua.org/ftp/lua-5.3.5.tar.gz
  tar zxf lua-5.3.5.tar.gz

Then make nethack normally.

435f1c4626 Fuzzer improvements.
phase_of_moon and friday_13th determined using rn2() instead of local
time if fuzzing. Don't reseed using init_random() if fuzzing. Allow
set_random to be called outside of hacklib. rn2_on_display_rng uses
rn2 if fuzzing so that we have a single source of random that we can
ensure is reproducible. Implement rul() that returns a random unsigned
long. Fix bug in fuzzer handling of ntposkey which would cause us to use
unitialized values for x and y. Added command line arguments to allow
auto starting and stopping of fuzzer. Add a logging facility for the
fuzzer to use to record activity. Added some scripts used to automate
fuzzer testing on windows.

ed08938ada Fix dangling chain bug.
If a punished player picks up the iron ball, gets engulfed and
saves, then the saved game will have missed saving the dangling
chain since it was not on the floor or in the inventory. Upon
restoring the saved game, the game will be in a bad state since
the ball will be worn but the chain will be missing.

7054e06e42 NetHack minor release checklist items - savefiles
Make some progress on a couple of next minor release checklist
items, hopefully without introducing too many new bugs. This
is just the initial commit, and work continues.

Checklist items:

Savefiles compatible between Windows versions, whether 64-bit
or 32-bit in little-endian field format.

Selection of file formats:
 historical (structlevel saves),
 lendian (little-endian, fieldlevel saves),
and just for proof-of-concept, ascii fieldlevel saves
(the ascii is huge! 10x bigger than little-endian).

For the fieldlevel save, all complex data structures recursively
get broken down until until it is one of the simple types that
can't be broken down any further, and that gets when it gets
written to the output file.

New files needed for this build:

hand-coded:
include/sfprocs.h
src/sfbase.c - really a dispatcher to one of the
                    output/input format routines.
src/sflendian.c - little-endian output writer/reader.
src/sfascii.c - ascii text output writer/reader.

auto-coded (generated):
include/sfproto.h
src/sfdata.c

This is just one approach. I'm sure there are countless others
and they have different pros and cons.

For producing the auto-coded files a utility called
universal-ctags, that is actively maintained and evolving,
was used to do all the heavy-lifting of parsing the
NetHack C sources to tabulate the data fields, and store
them in an intermediate file called util/nethack.tags
(not required for building NetHack if you already have a
generated include/sfproto.h and src/sfdata.c)

util/readtags (also not required for building NetHack
itself) will decipher the nethack.tags file and produce
the functions that can deal with the NetHack struct data
fields.

You can obtain the source for universal-ctags by cloning it
from here:
https://github.com/universal-ctags/ctags.git

The combination universal-ctags + util/readtags has been
tried and tested under both Windows and Linux, so it is
not tied to a particular platform.

Note: util/readtags will work only with universal-ctags
output, so other ctags are unlikely to work as-is.
Universal-ctags can be build from source very easily
under Linux, or under Windows using visual studio.

c741d6c7c9 missile light sources
Throwing or kicking a lit lamp, lit candle, or lit potion of oil
wasn't giving off any light as it travelled to its destination.
Now it does, and dungeon features, objects, or monsters that are
temporarily seen as it moves from square to square till appear on
the map. In the monster case, they go away as soon as the light
moves beyond range, but when it finishes moving the "remembered,
unseen monster" glyph will be drawn at their location. I think that
part has some room for improvement, but mapping temporarily seen
terrain features is the primary impetus for this change.

Also, any message delivery while the "lit missile" travelled still
showed its light around the hero. Noticeable for lamps or stacks
of sufficient candles if hero has no other light source.

This cannibalizes the monst->mburied bit for temporarily seeing a
monster. It has been present but unused for ages. I needed to
replace a couple of vision macros to make sure they didn't examine
it any more so that overloading for transient lighting doesn't
introduce any vision oddities. For version $NEXT, monst->mtemplit
can be given its own bit. It is only set during bhit() execution
and cleared by the time that returns, so has no effect on save files.

0e425d645f curses vs !HILITE_STATUS
The curses interface wouldn't build with HILITE_STATUS disabled. I
started adapting it to handle genl_status_update() but that was taking
too much effort with each niggling detail leading to another. This
goes the opposite direction: forcing the old STATUS_VIA_WINDOWPORT
behavior without having that #define available. That dragged along a
bunch of unexpected changes too.
