43afa91ff8 fix #H8850 - bless/curse state in perm_invent
Changing an inventory item's bknown flag wasn't followed by a call to
update_inventory() in many circumstances, so information which should
have appeared wasn't showing up until some other event triggered an
update.

be3092bed4 some fish should lay their eggs in the water rather than on land
Generally, fish should lay their eggs in the water and
not on land, but the game was only allowing the opposite.

Eels are catadromous and lay their eggs in the Sargasso Sea,
not in the dungeon.

9c422f2c1f fix #H7707 - terrain change leaving stale flags
struct rm.flags in overloaded for a bunch of rm.typ -dependent things
(doormask, altarmask, throne/fountain/sink looted, a few others) and
wasn't being reset for various cases where rm.typ gets changed.

I've changed a lot, some no doubt unnecessarily, and probably missed
plenty. This compiles but has not been thoroughly tested.

13c40d85e7 fix #H4275 - blinded, stunned, confused timers
Blindness due to face covered by pie was ignored for several cases
of magically curing blindness--cleaning the face seems better than
adjusting timeout to account for u.ucreamed for those cases. A few
instances of taking stun or confusion damage overrode existing stun
or confusion rather than increasing it. Plus a copy/paste mistake
for dual stun+confusion when casting an expired spell.

There was also a suggestion that vomiting when already nauseated
should decrement the timer instead of increasing it. But there is a
negative effect for as long as it's in effect, so I left that as is.

2b2ee0fbab formatting fixup (1 of 2)
Replace instances of strings split across lines which rely on C89/C90
implicit concatenation of string literals to splice them together
with single strings that are outdented relative to the code that uses
them. It's uglier but it won't break compile for pre-ANSI compilers.

This covers many files in src/ that only have one or two such split
strings. There are several more files which have three or more. Those
will eventually be '(2 of 2)'.

Noticed along the way: the fake mail message/subject
  Report bugs to devteam@nethack.org.
wasn't using its format string of "Report bugs to %s.", so would have
just shown our email address. Doesn't anybody enable fake mail anymore?

I modified that format to enclose the address within angle brackets and
made a similar change for the 'contact' choice of the '?' command.

6ac27851a6 fix #H2591 - sitting while swallowed (trunk only)
From a bug report, sitting while
swallowed gave "you are sitting on air," and the intended message "there are
no seats in here" was never reached. Move the latter so that it works, and
add a new one when you try to sit while a grabber is holding on to you.

84f02bd336 intrinsics revamp (trunk only)
Simplify many of the intrinsics macros from
  #define xxx_resistance (Hxxx || Exxx || resists_xxx(&youmonst))
down to
  #define xxx_resistance (Hxxx || Exxx)
by setting or clearing an extra bit in Hxxx during polymorph so that the
resists_xxx() check becomes implicit.

Unfornately there were lots of places in the code that treat Hxxx
as a timeout number--primarily for Stunned, Confused, and Hallucination;
Stunned happens to be one of the revised macros--rather than as a bit
mask, so this patch needed a lot more changes than originally antipated.

5a9b766e74 lava, slime, bones
From a bug report: entering lava cures sliming,
but if you got [re-]afflicted by green slime after becoming stuck in lava,
#sit failed to cure it. Fix that, and have sinking farther into lava cure
it too (although not necessarily right away).

Also, suppress leaving the corpse in a bones file for death caused by
being dissolved in lava. Lastly, suppress the "you rise from the dead as
a <monster>" message during bones creation when the game ends due to being
turned into green slime since you transformed rather than died (and sliming
timeout gives "you have become green slime" just prior to that).

73e9225d88 scroll usage; also spell of ID (trunk only)
Make a not-very-robust fix for the report from <email deleted> about
being told a scoll disappears as you read it, then for the case of cursed
remove curse being told that the scroll disintegrates. He missed similar
case for scroll of fire erupting into flames after it had disappeared.
This suppresses the "disappears" part of the scroll reading message for
those two cases, but won't be very reliable if other scroll messages
referring to the scroll itself get introduced in the future. [Several
paths through scroll of fire won't report that it burns, and now it doesn't
give the disappears message any more. I don't think that's worth worrying
about; the scroll leaving inventory after burning up is implicit.]

Also cut down on redundant feedback for several scrolls (genocide,
charging, identify, stinking cloud) that start off by informing the player
what they are. That's only needed when the the player doesn't already
know the type of scroll. I've always felt it silly to be told that I've
"found a scroll of genocide" when I'm intentionally reading a known scroll
of genocide. All these types of scroll give a subsequent prompt which
makes them recongizable if you somehow manage to choose the wrong object
when picking the one to read.

Lastly, make spell of identify behave like ordinary uncursed scroll of
identify by default instead of ususally ID'ing multiple items. Now you'll
need to be skilled or better in divination spells skill in order to get the
blessed scroll effect out of it. And give some feedback if the spell is
cast when not carrying any inventory; it was just silently moving on to the
user's next command in that case.

ff16502d67 floor access
A post-3.4.3 change dealing with reaching into pits resulted in "you
sit on the air" if you used the #sit command after escaping a pit trap.
Change can_reach_floor() so that caller explicitly controls whether being
on the brink of a pit is a condition that prevents reaching the floor.
This also splits a fairly common message about not being able to reach the
floor into a separate routine.

There is still oddness here: if you're polymorphed into a flyer,
#sit yields "you sit down" followed by "you fly over a pit" (latter occurs
when escaping trap activation). A ceiling hider behaves similarly, but
the second message is "you escape a pit" and doesn't sound quite as silly.
Perhaps #sit should pass TOOKPLUNGE to dotrap(), or maybe there's some
better way to handle this?

b661f86e67 U846 - xorns and pits
Change pit behavior to always mark a non-flying poly'd player as trapped in
a pit, even when Passes_walls is set. This allows players polymorphed into
xorns to descend into pits and pick things up. In this case, any attempt
to move out of the pit now takes a turn but always succeeds. Also fixed
a related bug (w/o ID) that a player could become trapped as if in a pit
when leaving xorn form because u.utrap wasn't checked, and simplified the
code since the extra Passes_walls checks are no longer needed. Also
updated code in sit.c that duplicated uteetering_at_seen_pit.

70e25fa154 U761 - Sitting as a hider and other related is_hider behavior
While looking at the behavior of sitting hiders, I noticed other related
odd behavior.
- player hiding while poly'd as a hider that hangs on the ceiling now drops to
the floor before sitting (similar to the behavior of movement commands).
- trappers, as per data.base, don't hang on the ceiling. Changed the
mattacku case dealing with hiders to not treat trappers as ceiling hiders.
- updated can_reach_floor to also exclude ceiling hiders. This covers a
bunch of cases, such as pickup, look-here-while-blind, and so on. Another
alternative would have been to automatically unhide for all such cases.
trunk only, it's a minor bug IMO and we appear to be close to a release.

9b9f13aa13 Half_physical_damage 07
It is not physical damage if:
1. it already qualifies for some other special type of damage
for which a special resistance already exists in the game
including: cold, fire, shock, and acid. Note that fire is
extended to include all forms of burning, even boiling water
since that is already dealt with by fire resistance, and in
most or all cases is caused by fire.
2. it doesn't leave a mark. Marks include destruction of, or
damage to, an internal organ (including the brain),
lacerations, bruises, crushed body parts, bleeding.

Current exceptions to the rule (already existing):
- holy water burning chaotic ("it burns like acid") is physical damage.
- unholy water burning lawful is physical damage.

e1f5ddd820 sound cleanup
+ Separate the two uses of flags.soundok.
+ Player-settable option is now called "acoustics".
+ Deafness is now handled as a full-fledged attribute.
+ Check for deafness in You_hear(), rather than caller.
+ Check for deafness in caller, rather than verbalize(),
because gods can speak to characters in spite of deafness.
+ Since changes are being made to prop.h, reorder it to the
same order as youprop.h and enlightenment.

There are still some extraneous checks and missing checks
for deafness, which will be followed up in a future patch.

Because of the size of this patch and its savefile incompatibilities,
it is only being applied to the trunk code. Portions of this patch
were written by Michael Allison.
