- menu-window code could access a null pointer when there was no data
- menu-window code can't handle empty contents, because there's no place
to position the cursor, so force text mode
- still looked ugly, so added a check to avoid displaying anything if
the file was empty
- avoid several buffer overflows
- move use of access() to files.c in new can_read_file() function
- remove extra newlines in raw_print() calls
- get ready for lint, eg sprintf -> Sprintf
- generally make the code look like core code, not Qt code
Addresses the follwing missing updates:
- Quest Artifact identification by Quest Leader.
- Rust damage from a rust trap.
- Remove curse as a result of prayer (both fixing TROUBLE_CURSED_* and
the blessed-remove-curse boon.)
- Charging via PYEC
Generally modify the AD_DGST damage type so that:
- players and pets get no AD_DGST nutrition from G_NOCORPSE monsters
- undead no longer convey any nutrition, to either monsters or you-as-monster
I decided on this based on the age typically assigned to undead corpses.
- digestion conveys 50% or normal nutrition, and takes 25% the time to eat.
- all AD_DGST attacks are now subject to gas spore explosions, including player
- attempt to determine if tty_wait_synch() is called during the ending
dialogs due to an interrupt, and not re-display the previous message
at the wrong time
- also, "msg_window display anomaly" fix was missing code to still treat ^P
properly while in a prompt
- watch messages if you can't see the watch now start "You hear"
- unseen spellcaster messages are shown as "Something", to remove
some silly message pairs.
- unseen spellcaster that casts at itself causes no message
- recalc vision before spoteffects messsages, to avoid invalid "It"
If you interrupt nethack (^C) in tty windowport mode while a pompt is
displayed and and msg_window=true, it can display the full message history
at an unexpected time. Detect this and display only the topl, as expected.
SPLEVTYPE can have a value like "minetn-3,minend-2,soko2-2" and allows
someone in debug mode to select specific instances of random levels to use
in a test game. Invalid values found in SPLEVTYPE are silently ignored.
+ attributes may exceed 18 for non-humans
+ update spell casting paragraph to loosely describe 3.3 style spell casting
+ correct description of the output of the '+' command
+ note default value for 'mail' option
The autodig code still requires lots of interaction, because of all the
digging messages. Make these messages behave more like boulder pushing
messages, where they only display if the previous move wasn't a push.
getobj used display_inventory when "?" was selected. However, any count
entered via the menu interface was lost. Provide a new internal function
that can return both a letter and a count
Make pushing a boulder onto a landmine share code with the trap case,
resulting in pits, waking sleepers, et al.
Don't leave a boulder suspended over the new pit, fill it.
Make sure any remaining boulder is placed on top of the pile.
If player sets off landmine, monsters killed are credited to/blamed on player.
The GOLDOBJ fix I posted back on 1/3 caused "Ix" to access a null pointer
(obj) while generating the total line. This patch fixes the bug I added to
xprname.
Incorporate a slightly cleaned up version of <Someone>'s patch to enable a
"pettype:none" startup option that allows one to start the game without a pet.
This patch, based on code sent to us by <Someone> well over a year ago, addresses
bugs recently resurfaced. Namely, that lava does not generally do anything
to monsters or objects that land in java. Newly renamed minliquid() handles
both water and lava, and new fire_damage() is used similar to water_damage().
The change to allow digits in maps causes the comments that were
incorrectly placed inside MAP/ENDMAP blocks to be seen as valid
map lines. They were quietly skipped before by the old scanner.
Move them out.

Reported to the list 1/5/2001 by <Someone>.
I put stop_occupation calls in all the gaze cases where they were needed.
You might still die, but you'll only get attacked once before you stop waiting.
Patch from <Someone> to the list on 10/01/2001. The changes cause riding a steed
into water to result in a dismount, and, if the steed can't survive in
water, the death of the steed, with the usual pet-death penalties.
Fix the Qt code so it compiles wth Qt 2.1 again (Install.Qt still claims
the code works on Qt 2.0 and above). One or more of the changes made this
week broke compilation on my RedHat Linux 6.2 system. Qt 2.1 is still the
most recent Qt shipped by RedHat for this version.
